My EyeCon Summary - Part Two

April 11th, 2008 (12:32 am)
tired

where i am: here with Flurry
how i am: tired
accompanied by: quietude

Damn, when I started working on Part 2, I checked the EyeCon site to refresh my memory about Sunday's schedule and they'd already wiped it clean. So that means I'm flying by the seat of my pants here…

Sunday – Jared's Day:
Yup, after a quick bite to eat for breakfast, we started our day with Jared's Q&A. Not a bad way to start one's morning at all *g*. Like many of you, I'd already seen tons of footage of him from prior cons so I had a pretty good idea what to expect and Jared delivered all the personality and enthusiasm I had counted on. The kid had to have been tired, with the screwed up last minute changes to his schedule and his 11th hour arrival, but still he had a grin on his scruffy face and definitely charmed the crowd.

He was humble and gracious with the accolades, bright and funny with his answers, and a sweetheart with the kids. A favorite moment for me was when he was asked by a little boy if he'd fight or pee himself if he saw a monster and Jared responded by saying he'd run away… Unless the monster was after the boy, in which case he'd fight the monster and beat it up.

Go ahead… say it with me now. "Awwwww." Jared also remarked on the little guy's football jersey, commenting that he had the same one and that Jensen had given it to him. Okay, I know you wanna say it again. On three.

One.
Two.
Three…

"Awwwww."

Incidentally, we've seen pictures of Jared wearing said jersey in the fairly recently published shots of him and Sandy at a basketball game. Yup, he's wearing Jensen's gift. Adorable, isn't it?

"Awwwww." *g*

Another favorite moment for me was when a con-goer brought up Sam finally memorizing the demon exorcism  ;). IIRC, Jared was asked if he remembered it and, if so, could he say it right there and then. He needed to be given the first line or so from the audience (the provision of which is scary in and of itself *g*) and then he rolled with it. I think he was quite proud of himself for reciting it all. Me? Yeah, I'll admit that this Dean-girl found herself in the gutter there for a minute or two *g*.

Never fear though, Jensen. My heart still beats faster and strongest for you ::sigh::.

Having said this and despite appearing a bit tired, Jared did look damn fine. Like Jensen, black definitely works for him. I had to laugh though, each time he stepped on and off the stage (a frequent occurrence); it was almost as though he was stepping off a curb. Meanwhile, most of us would've been hoisting ourselves up onto it or in need of assistance getting down. Damn, is he tall!

I know there is a ton of material available out there, in text and video format so that's all I'm going to say about the Q&A. Jared truly appears to be a good kid, an adoring boyfriend, and a gracious and fun young actor. To read more about his Q&A, I suggest visiting all the links provided here at supernatural wiki.

After the Q&A we (I think?) lined up for his and Jim's autographs. Understandably, the line-up was considerably longer than the day before but it went fairly smoothly. The order was based on our seating so the three of us didn't have to wait too long. There was concern that Jim and Jared would have to stop personalizing the autographs in order to speed up the process but that wasn't the case for us. I'm not sure if others back of us had to miss out on the personalization. Due to the timing and length of line-up, chatting with Jared wasn't possible but he was still very friendly and responded to any greetings being sent his way. Since I'd already gotten Jim's signature the day prior, I didn't stop in front of him at all this time.

The photo ops were next and that's where my loathing of crowds and line-ups came into play. I hadn't signed up for a Jared photo for this very reason so had time to kill while Leslie and Cindy wound their way through their line. From what I've seen of the Jared pictures, it looks like he truly enjoyed participating in the photo shoots and seemed game to do anything (any pose, that is) asked of him. My line-up for the Jim & Jared Hunters shot immediately following Jared's shoot was considerably smaller, which was a plus. They hustled us through very quickly though with barely the opportunity to say "hi" but I'm guessing that was largely due to all the time spent on Jared's earlier shoot combined with the fact that he had a plane to catch to get back to the set. I did make some inane comment to Jared as I stood next to him along the lines of, "My, you are a tall one, aren't you?" and he chuckled and said something like, "Yeah, I get that a lot." No doubt. He really, truly *is* a tall one!

Both he and Jim are obviously good sports though. If I were in their shoes, despite the money earned and the gratitude the fans truly do deserve for promoting SPN as they have, I'm still not sure if I'd be willing to give that much of myself. Kudos to them all!

Afterward, we went into the vendors room where a number of the celebs were seated, signing autographs. The con was starting to wind down though so these lines were very quiet. In fact we were able to spend quite a bit of time talking with Sam Ferris and, once again she rocked me with her easy going, good natured, earthy womanness. She really is a nifty, nifty lady. We talked a bit about everything, including Keanu Reeves, Mischa Barton, food, weight gain, taking photographs, Jim Beaver, and I can't remember what all else *g*. Her voice was hoarser than hoarse but that didn't stop her from being open, honest and just a pleasure to talk with.

As the day wound down further, we hung out at the bar drinking margaritas (where Leslie had a brief chat with Steve Carlson) and waiting for poor Cindy to try to ensure that her thrice delayed flight was actually going to get her home. Once reasonably assured, she and Leslie left for the airport around 7pm and I made my way back to our room. And crashed. I know I should've hooked up with the plenty of other attendees but I was utterly and completely beat so, once I made a few calls of my own, I settled into bed, turned on the pay-per-view on the flat-screen and capped off a wonderful Supernatural themed weekend with watching Papa John himself – Jeffrey Dean Morgan – showing off his glorious backside talents in P.S. I Love You.

And there you have it. I was back on a plane homeward bound on Monday and landed in Toronto faced not with the snow I'd left behind but rather gorgeous, warm and sunny weather that has continued until today. The hubby, Dempsey and Flurry greeted me at the airport as did the rest of the gang when I got home. Despite the blast we had at EyeCon and how great it was to get together with Leslie again and Cindy (who I hadn't seen in almost 8 years), it was good to be home.

I know in Part 1 I promised to write more on Ten Inch Hero this time and that is definitely still coming. But not tonight. It's well after midnight here and work will be hectic tomorrow. Bed is beckoning me and this seems like a good place to leave off anyway. I hope you've enjoyed reading this recap and, once again, if you really want to get a bigger and better feel for the event, do click on the supernatural wiki link above.

G'night!

Jensen Prayer Hands

Even though I was lucky enough to see him in Fort Worth, I *do* want to see Jensen in action at a con. Whether I ever will? Remains to be seen.

I sure hope it happens some day. For both of us ;)

I didn't knew you were going at the con, I must have missed some of your posts. But I'm so happy you had such a good time.
Jared seems to have a very effervescent personality and I'm so envious of you guys meeting him and Jim Beaver and Samantha Ferris. I really hope they'll come to this side of the Ocean at a con sometime so I can have the chance to meet them. Even though I met Jenasen so I can't complain too much ;)

AFGM

Oh, you'll have to tell me how you met Jensen! I saw him in Ft Worth, doing his play and then when he and Lou came out to greet the fans afterward and I just adored him. I was already in love but he definitely endeared himself even deeper into my heart then.

I would soooo love to see him and Jared together (or Jensen and Jeff!) at a con. I know my face would end up hurting from grinning all weekend long :D.

Pious by jiatra

you'll have to tell me how you met Jensen

In the most natural way for a fangirl this side of the Ocean: going to a con. I have a full report here with more indepth impression, but basically I was smitten.
I would have loved seeing him in action like you did at Forth Worth.

We are so very lucky that our boys are awesome and charming in real life, but I would die of hotness if I were in the same room with Jensen, Jeff and Jared. Oh my, what a thought!
:D

Gif Dean Hi

I'm quoting from your lj report here:

Jensen Ackles is the most sweet, gorgeous, friendly, polite (and beautiful) man on earth. And that's final *grin*.

It'll take a miracle to have me think otherwise. The Asylum con reports were so much fun to read, as was yours, and reading those, seeing him after AFGM, seeing reports and vids from LA, etc...

I am and always will be smitten. :)

Sam Sweet Sammy

Unless the monster was after the boy, in which case he'd fight the monster and beat it up.

You know, I really thought I already loved Jared as much as I could possibly love him. Thank you for proving me wrong. :D

Yeah, I'll admit that this Dean-girl found herself in the gutter there for a minute or two *g*.

You know, my opinion of Jensen didn't really change at all in meeting him. He was everything I expected (read: awesome), and I'm exactly the same kind of big fan I've pretty much been all along.

But Jared? Actor-wise (I actually showed up for the writers), Jared was the reason I tuned into SPN in the first place. I thought he was a hoot on Gilmore Girls and wanted to see what he was going to do with subject matter a little more up my ally. And I think he's done a great job. And he always seemed very nice, albeit a little too young-goofy for me to ever really appreciate the way I do Jen and Jeffrey Dean.

Then I met him.

I could not BE a bigger fan. The guy is ... awesome. Seriously, seriously awesome. In all the right, real, genuine and kind ways. He impressed me down to the marrow of my bones, not with the show he puts on or the PR game he plays, but with the Jared he simply is.

I really got something from meeting Jared. Prior to that, I thought both Jeffrey Dean and Jensen were awesome, and Jared seemed like a good kid. Now it's a three-way happy for me. What an exceptional young man.

Seriously.

I did make some inane comment to Jared as I stood next to him along the lines of, "My, you are a tall one, aren't you?" and he chuckled and said something like, "Yeah, I get that a lot." No doubt.

LOL. I never realized how that was until I started dating my husband. He, too, is 6'5, but that never really registered all that strongly on me. My brothers and father are all between 6'1 and 6'4, so I'm used to tall men. But literally, EVERYONE he met through me, the first freaking words out of their mouths were something along the lines of "Holy hell, you are TALL." Even my mother. In fact, that may have been what she talked about most for the first several months, and my hubs has a LOT to talk about other than height, and my mom loves him (sometimes more than me, I think). But still, we'd be chatting and she'd stop right in the middle of a conversation to say "wow, you really are tall."

It kinda made me a little nuts after awhile. Nuts enough I actually said "I'm so sorry my friends and family seem to be so permenently fixated on your height." He laughed. He's been dealing with it for 20 years. He finds it amusing and is very, very, very used to it.

But when he met my nephew, who I helped raise, who is an enormous amount like Jared personality wise, and who is 6'4 himself; my nephew said, "Shit, Dude. You ARE tall." I actually looked at my hubs then and said, "Huh. You kinda are, Babe. Who knew?"

So that's my tall story. Which I tell you just to say: if you're over 6'4, evidently EVERYBODY tells you you're tall as if perhaps you hadn't noticed as much on your own. I don't know why, but they do, so don't feel too silly about it being inane. I'm sure, like my hubs, it doesn't phase Jared in the slightest.

Thanks for the awesome con report. Sounds like you had a great time, and you sure paint an intimate and entertaining word picture of the goings on.

Boys Abandoned Shadow

Jared really was a sweetheart. He actually reminds me of my one big dog... all legs, scruff and goofiness, yet gorgeous when finally standing still. I'd bet he'd be lethal if someone he cared about was threatened though ;).

The only time I've seen Jensen in real life was outside after one of his AFGM performances and I was actually blown away. I knew he'd be gorgeous, knew he'd be a gentleman and charming but what I didn't expect was for him to be so open and welcoming with the fans. Given what I'd read about his shyness and, after what had recently happened to him at Asylum, I was so impressed by his generosity with us. That he took the lead, even with Lou Diamond Phillips there, and called us in closer, just won my heart even more than had already been the case.

Re: tall guys and tall hubbies... it's funny how ones own environment really does shape you. I'm slightly less than 5'5" and my hubby is 5'8" (but actually has the posture and presence of a bigger man, so most people guess he's 5'10" or even more). In my family though, I'm tall. My mom barely scaled 5', her 2 sisters were under 5' and about 5'2". My sister is also only about 5'2", maybe 5'3", her hubby is 5'6" and their adult son is a whopping 5'9". I always felt average to even tall at times until starting to work for a living. I've worked for the same company for 17 years and, in that time, of the women who have worked in my admin department, I've always been the shortest. Right now I'm working with a 6 footer and my long-time co-worker who's 5'10".

Jared though is definitely beyond the norm for me. I was pretty confident he didn't take offense though... I just would've preferred not being the one to point out the obvious *g*

Jensen Prayer Hands

LOL, yeah, I wanna hear about him from *me* too. Think you could arrange a meeting?

Okay, just teasing... a girl's gotta dream though, right?

I would love to see him in action at a con, aside from on YouTube. There's talk of the EyeCon organizers trying to get Jensen for the next one this fall. I sooo want to believe he'll go but I have to confess, Jared's unintentionally "shaky" ability to even make it for the one day this time around makes me worry about Jensen's ability to make it to any con during SPN filming, let alone an east coast one. Time will tell though.

I'm so glad you enjoyed these reports. TIH to follow, hopefully tonight.

To dream is the only option for me *sigh*
Well, i don't really know how they organize all those cons but i keep the faith that he'll manage to attend. He'll be very busy at summer cos of the late season filming and new movie but i think as soon as they'll come to set of S4 it'll be more calm there and he'll find time to attend con - he told it himself - he likes cons so i hope.
