Way to go, Alex! (an addendum to my last entry)

Canada's Alex Despartie put on one helluva performance with one outstanding dive after another during the Olympic 3m springboard diving finals but was unable to place higher than China's He Chong. He Chong was simply brilliant in the finals and earned a very much deserved gold medal. Alex earned his 2nd Olympic silver medal, placing ahead of the current reigning world champion, China's Qin Kai and man did all 3 of these guys dive well!

Considering the back and neck problems Alex has been suffering, along with his rustiness from not being able to compete at all while the foot he broke in April had to heal, Alex's performance and consistency were just amazing. And, as always, Alex's sportsmanship, humility and grace shone through as he congratulated the other competitors and later, during the many interviews that followed his event.

Despite only earning a silver medal, this is one Canuck who definitely thinks this kid is golden. Way to go, Alex!

They just broadcast that tonight on NBC (even though I already knew how it turned out). He had some nice dives and I thought of you. Who was that blond woman diver friend he planted a giant kiss on the lips on after his last dive? Lucky girl :)

I didn't catch the NBC coverage (though I've been watching a lot of it through the Games)... streamed the coverage live at work this morning with no sound (streaming's a no-no *g*) for maybe the last 3 rounds and then watched Canadian (CBC) coverage tonight since I knew we'd get decent interviews. 4 years ago his French accent was quite pronounced but now you'd barely be able to define it.

I'm actually not sure who that blonde was but agree that I think it may have been a woman diver, possibly Canada's Blythe Hartley who came 4th last week. I don't think it was his girlfriend, though I could be wrong. I've found pictures of her looking blonde and light/mousy brown. He mentioned the girlfriend's name during the interviews and so I looked her up (of course). She's a synchro swimmer competing there this coming week and apparently they've been together since last year. Tracy Little is her name and she's, not surprisingly, quite a pretty thing.
