Tennis, anyone? (and updates from a social butterfly *snort*)

August 15th, 2010 (05:54 pm)
where i am: home
how i am: busy
accompanied by: Murray beating Federer

Sadly I'm still in "lj-introvert" mode these days, not reading much fic nor spending much time at all on my flist. I guess in certain ways that's a good thing… I'm being much more real life sociable than my normally hermit-like nature lends itself toward, having gotten together in person with deangirl1  twice this summer for awesome mega-hour gab/squee sessions, plus meeting RL friends for lunch during workdays and getting out and doing stuff with the hubby. Taking our trailer and going with him back in late May to a spring dog trial I usually send him to on his own was the beginning of what, for me, has turned into an active summer of, egad, shudder, doing things.

I still get chills and a grin from ear to ear thinking about seeing The Eagles in June. Every time damn near any one of their songs comes on the radio, I think to myself, "I heard that live". Heee. It's a great feeling.

And, as I sit here composing this entry while the ATP Masters 1000 Rogers Cup Tennis Finals is in a rain delay on TV, I can bask in the knowledge that I got to see Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer in quarter-final action on Friday and damn! was that an amazing, awesome day! All 4 won their matches and went on to the semis played yesterday but I'd purposely wanted QF tickets to stack the deck in my favor to actually see the world's best, since typically the top 4 players don't all advance that far in any given tournament. I went with my girlfriend (and former co-worker) Tami who I'd managed to get into watching tennis after I came back from seeing the same tournament live back in 2006 and she's become crazier over the sport than I am LOL. She loves Federer and lusts after Nadal so it was a stellar day for her too. The Nadal match was thrilling with him being tested by Kohlschreiber and extended to 3 sets in order to win. The best match by far though (and the one that's being re-aired right now on TV during the rain delay) was Federer against Berdych – Berdych who has beaten Federer the last 2 times they've played, including the Wimbledon quarter-final this year. OMG was the match suspenseful, with Federer being stretched to 3 sets and ultimately winning in an edge-of-your-seat tie-break! The crowd was electric and, heavily pro-Federer but, thankfully, being the polite Canadians we are, we gave Berdych a very well deserved and rousing standing ovation as he was exiting the stadium.

Tami and I had a fantastic day. Her hubby picked me up at 9am and drove us there (
Toronto) and mine picked us up afterward. Once home, I crawled into bed about 2:30am. Not having to drive ourselves meant we didn't have to behave, though it was too damn hot to drink much more than water, anyway. I only had one glass of wine and must've guzzled gallons of over-priced water. It was a long day in excessively hot temperatures (with no shade for the matinee session; the night session was gorgeous though) but worth.every.penny.

And now I have to switch gears and start thinking about Vancouver's SPN con at the end of the month! Yup, I'm going again, in fact flying out to BC a week from tomorrow. Once again I'm going to combine this trip with a visit with my dear RL friends Lois and Rick who live near Langley so I'll be flying into Abbotsford on the 23rd and staying until the Thursday before making my way into Vancouver and the Wall Centre. I'll be rooming with writerinchains  and nonniemous  and I know we are going to have sooooo much fun! I'll also be getting together as much as possible with deangirl1  and meeting some of her friends and, heather03nmg , if you're reading this, we absolutely have to meet this time!!

I'll only be staying until Monday the 30th and will be stopping for a few hours in Winnipeg on my way home… to pick up the newest addition to our household... our new puppy!! I didn't think we'd start the process of getting another Drahthaar like Cooper for about another year but, as we started making inquiries, we were told that this upcoming Winnipeg litter was going to produce some awesome bird-dogs with great temperaments so we started connecting with the breeder and, next thing we knew, we were in line to get a male pup from the litter. Based on our discussions with the breeder, we are having him pick which pup we'll get and, as of now, we're not sure which of these 2 boys we'll be getting:

The boys at age one month

Thankfully, I don't have to pick between these 2 adorable faces!

So, come September, I'll have a lot to report on… assuming the puppy will allow me to find the time *g*

LOL, I know... they are too adorable to consider anything else, aren't they? I can't say, after 7 years without doing it, I'm looking forward to house-training yet again but either of those 2 fuzzy faces will help make things more bearable ;).

eeee, Rafa! I'm so glad you got to see a wonderful day of exciting tennis.

I've got very expensive tickets with my mom and two of my cousins to see the men's semis at the U.S. Open, and yesterday my brother called and told me that he was getting me tickets to one of the night sessions as well. I am excited!

The day was awesome, as was the tennis. I'm so glad I went :)

I hope the men's semis will be thrilling for you... I'll be watching at home. You'll have to post an entry about it - I'll look forward to that.

And, OMG your icon! Gorgeous!

Congrats on the new puppy!

Speaking of tennis, did you happen to see this picture of Jensen, Danneel, Steve Carlson and another friend (Mike Roe) that Danneel posted? http://yfrog.com/6rphej

I hope you have a great time in Vancouver!

Maybe when you get back, we finally schedule our phone call? LOL

I'm looking forward to getting the puppy, if not the house-training ;)

I hadn't seen that photo link so thank-you! It's adorable. I just watched the s4 gag reel for the first time so am definitely grinning over Jensen tonight *G*

I'll be home the week of the 30th - off until the Tues. after Labor Day so somewhere in there we should be able to coordinate a phone call. I've got 2 photo ops with Jensen again though (no J2 this time) so don't be surprised if you hear from me earlier so I can babble incoherently into your voice-mail once again LOL.

"so don't be surprised if you hear from me earlier so I can babble incoherently into your voice-mail once again LOL."

I actually still have your voice mail saved on my cell phone. Your reaction to meeting Jensen and getting a photo with him was just so funny and cute and so was your description of Brenda's reaction. LOL

writerinchains and I were JUST talking about SPN Con today! PARTAY!

In honor of which, I bought a Zombie FLUXX game. It has zombies and shotguns and cars! *g* She is making SPN themed jewelry.

Your new boy, whichever one he may be, is adorable!

and it's funny, isn't it, how RL sneaks in and grabs you up? I'm not on LJ as much, either, because I'm staying more connected in RL, too. But it's always good to see an update from you. {{{{{May}}}}}

Less than two weeks!!!

Jensen Dazzling (VanCon '09)

I'm really getting excited about this trip... just wish I took some time off before-hand to get ready (other than the weekend) because my brain needs time to coordinate all 3 parts of the trip: 1) Lois' place, 2) the con, 3) getting ready for and picking up the puppy.

I can't wait to see you again and love that we'll be able to spend more time together ♥

German Wirehair actually or more accurately, a Deutsch-Drahthaar (the German registry as opposed to AKC). This pup will be our second Drahthaar. You met Cooper, our first, here: http://may7fic.livejournal.com/19918.html

This is more information than you want no doubt *g* but, the German Wirehaired Pointers of America come from Drahthaars which have a somewhat different breed standard. Drahts also have different breeds in their makeup from German Shorthairs (namely Pudelpointers and Stickelhaars), are bulkier and have different chests, plus the GSP's coat is much sleeker. Like shorthairs, their typical coat color is called braunschimmel (brown w/ ticking) but they also come in black (schwarzschimmel) which you don't find in GSPs or GWPs (except as an anomaly and is considered a serious fault). My hubby wanted to stack the deck in our favor in terms of getting a true hunting dog and, after a lot of research, we settled on buying a pup from the German registry because of how stringent it is compared to AKC, CKC, or some of the others. Me? I'm just hoping for another with a great temperament that gets along with the rest of my brood ;).

I will *absolutely* introduce myself in Vancouver! Looking forward to it :).

((((puppy)))) - oh, aren't they simply gorgeous, good thought to have someone else pick...and yeah, I so agree, temperament can never be judged too highly, happy puppies from calm and good natured parents are worth their weight in gold.

Have a great time at the con hon.

The girls are even cuter than the boys but, with my household heavily weighted toward girls - Jack Russell bitches in particular - I went with another boy. As sad as it is to think about, old Boomer will likely pass on before this pup becomes a 'threat' to him and, if Coop and the new pup decided to scrap as the youngun' matures, they'll be evenly matched, so I won't have to worry about an unfair fight.

Aaaah, the complicated calculations and preparations of an owner of a Jack Russell pack LOL.

OMG those tennis boys are pretty! I may just have to watch them get all sweaty sometime. Can't remember the last time I watched tennis, but I was a huge fan back in high school (just a couple of years ago *g*).

I'm glad you're having a fun summer -- I can have a little vicarious fun along with you.

10 more days!!! :)

Great to hear from you!!! I've been meaning to email you but RL is so hectic these days I haven't taken the time. I'll be in BC as of Monday, then arriving at the hotel with Lisa, if all goes to plan, Thursday noonish. I'm soooo looking forward to meeting you finally :)
