Did anybody get the license plate on that bus?

I should be at work right now. Should've been there a good 2 plus hours ago.

Instead I'm waiting to hear back from my auto insurance company because I got hit by a freakin' school-bus this morning!

Feeling, seeing and hearing the crunch as my passenger side mirror was being sheered off was definitely unsettling, as was that tippy sensation one experiences when their vehicle's lifted and then dropped while said bus was turning the corner...

And carrying on its way.

Okay, to give the bus driver his or her due, it was the very back of the bus that hit me and they probably don't even know they did it. I, on the other hand, am vividly and shakily aware of what happened.

Well, except for the part about the license number or bus I.D. number. Okay, I'm an idiot... was too damn shocked to coherently memorize or write down the bus info, besides, I was hanging on with both hands for the ride at the time. A really nice lady that had been behind the bus stopped to check on me but, by the time I thanked her, the bus was well on its way and I didn't want to follow it not knowing how badly damaged my vehicle was.

Crap, I hope the cop (good looking Constable Mike *g*) will be able to track down which bus it was. At least I'm certain of the bus company and that, plus location and time, should hopefully narrow things down.

So, no side mirror, one significant scrape along the length of the passenger side and two areas where the side paneling is dented/caved in. Not to mention, I really like my vehicle, especially in these Canadian winters. It's an AWD Safari and I feel very safe commuting in it to work and I really don't want to break in an unfamiliar rental right now while we're in the midst of a week full of forecasted bad weather.

Am I happy?

No.

I definitely know this could have been so much worse. There weren't kids in the bus and, in the grand scheme of things, this is a relatively minor fender bender. Still, it's one royal pain in the ass and I'm reserving the right to whine on my lj. I'm done now though ;)

I really do hope you all are having a much better day :D.

*HUGS* Man, that's more than a fender bender! They'll track down the individual bus -- and THANK GOD you're okay! I live across the street from a primary school and often worry about all those buses. I'm so sorry this happened, honey. *more hugs*

Aww, thank-you, lady. Honestly, this feels more like a murphy's law, pain in the ass inconvenience to me, but your sympathy is truly appreciated.

I still have phone calls to make and have to get the van over to the collision place. It's drive-able though you never notice how much you use your side mirrors until one of them is impersonating roadkill and no longer on your vehicle where it belongs ;)

Thanks for the hugs and kind thoughts. I hope you and Mei Mei are having a great time getting to know each other. I would so love to 'talk' SPN-snippets with you today... alas, I think I'm going to be spending too much of the day on phone calls. Mind you, I do have a warm, weechester vision of the boys sitting on either side of their dad watching Smokey & the Bandit (mentioned in my Armistice) or Cannonball Run (something with Burt) I'd love to see someone other than me write *g* ;).

That's an awful way to start your day--and yeah, shaking and upset; no matter how minor that kind of stuff is it's a shock. I prescribe hot tea, brandy, and repeated viewings of Jeff picture spam.

{{{{May}}}}

(And now I have to run catch MY bus. ;-)

I sure hope your bus ride was much more uneventful ;)

I'll have to hold off on the brandy until I get back from dropping the Safari off at the collision place but a nice, relaxing drink may just be on the agenda for later today.

Thanks for the kind thoughts!

Honey that's awful and really shocking for you, even a little bump can knock you for six, take care OK? Bummer about your car, but you're ok and that's what counts.

OMG! Are you alright? I read this twice-and I am still sitting here in stunned shock! My lord! I hope that they can find the bus that hit you-and get everything taken care of-just so glad you seem alright!
*Hugs you*

Love that icon you used *g*!

This is just going to be a PITA for a bit but otherwise I'm truly fine.

A mini John-Dean-JDM-JA pic spam some time in the future certainly would help my spirits immensely though ::hint, hint:: ;)

That is... whenever lj and pb cooperate...

GAH! That's less fender-bender and more fender-ripper-offer! Glad you are okay, but dang I hope you can track down who did it and get your insurance squared away.

Thank goodness it wasn't worse, but still! *HUGS!*

Thanks for the good thoughts, pard. Yeah, I'm hoping they'll be able to narrow down the bus and driver. In the mean time, this is far from tragedy... just a lot closer to pain in the ass ;)

I would soooo love to kick that damn bus *g*!

Hey, I was gonna offer to beta both of your stories but I think my brain is going to be too distracted, even though I'm now home all day (with the exception of driving my lopsided van to the collision center).

If you haven't heard from any volunteers yet, feel free to send me the littler one though and I'm sure I could get it back to you by tomorrow night (if not later today). I'm at vagabondjrs@rogersdotcom. I betaed a fair bit in my old fandom and erinrua used me recently if you want a referral ;).

Thanks for providing the grin in the midst of a fairly sucky day :).

I know a fender bender and all the paperwork/phone tag is a major pain in the bum (I remember my Canadian speak), but I'm glad you are ok and your car is still drivable.

On the plus side, you have major street cred for being late to work or what ever you want....after all, you were hit by a freakin bus!!

I hope since its a govt vehicle that hit you... you wont be smothered in red tape and your claim is processed quickly!

Just got back from the collision place and the ballpark estimate is that it'll be out of commission for 2 weeks. That's just from a quick walk around the vehicle... I'll know more when they clean it up and take a closer look at it. It is a pain in the butt... note I did use "butt". I graciously acknowledge your use of "bum" but please don't feel you have to use it on my account ;). It always makes me think of 6 year olds when I hear it *g*. I think my youth spent as a tv addict and an adulthood with more American than Canadian friends has turned me against such words as bum and arse. They damn near make me cringe (LOL). Not in your case though since that was very sweet of you to make the effort ;). So far the fact that the offending vehicle was a schoolbus doesn't seem to be causing me any grief. So far. Let's hope it stays that way. Thanks for checking in and for the good wishes. Hope your day is a good one!

OMG, I am so sorry! And he/she didn't even NOTICE? Wow. Although I'm glad that you're at least collected enough to notice Constable Mike's good looks, LOL. Still a bummer, though - that must have been scary. I'm glad you're okay; will think good thoughts for you! :)

Thanks for those good thoughts, they've definitely helped counter the frustration of the plethora of phonecalls and Q&As today.

This is certainly more hassle than tragedy so I'll most definitely survive it. Just one of life's little blips ;).

Thanks again :).

Sorry to hear about your crappy day. :(

...and I know your day didn't get any better with the news regarding Heath Ledger. So sad.

Hopefully, because it's a school bus won't create more obstacles for you getting payment/reimbursement for the damage.

Yeah, today really did suck. And it's Wayne's birthday, forever to be associated now with the van being crunched and Heath dying *sigh*.

I was going to post an update on the van situation to my lj late this aft (the bus & driver have been ID'd) but got side-tracked with the news of Heath and then the hubby getting home, etc. I'll likely do a brief update tomorrow. It doesn't look like we'll have any extra grief with the vehicle being a school bus. So far, so good anyway ;).

Thanks for the good thoughts. It'll be about 2 weeks before I get my Safari back but that's better than the 2 months the last time someone hit me!

Have a great night and thanks again.

Thank-you, smilla. Sadly, with Heath's death, that accident wasn't the worst part of my day. My Safari will be fixed within a few weeks... I wish we could say the same for Heath and his family.

Thank-you again.

Well, THAT sucks out loud. Poor you. I'm glad that it wasn't worse. I hope that it's worked out with insurance and all. Damn. Dealing with the insurance companies isn't fun, either. In the middle of winter too. *pets you*

THAT sucks out loud

Exactly. It's far from tragedy but just a royal pain in the ass. Especially the damn Canuck winter factor. Ugh.

I did just this minute update my lj with news that the bus & driver have been ID'd so hopefully that will expedite matters. The scary part is that less than 18 months ago my van was rear-ended worthy of some major damage and major dollars and here I am again - innocent again - but filing yet another claim. It makes me a tad nervous about future premiums.

Anyway, by nightfall I was truthfully more upset over Heath than I was my van by far. I'll live with the inconvenience - whether I want to or not ;).

Thanks for commiserating though. It's greatly appreciated!
